The Whitaker’s Events Programme 2017 Is A Showcase For Rossendale’s Heritage And Its Community


The Whitaker has recently published its programme of events for 2017, and as you will see, it presents a diverse range of activities that support established events, the arts and the history and heritage of Rossendale.


Their programme starts on the weekend of 16th – 18th June with ‘The Whitaker Words Weekend’, which will open on Friday with Willian Neary and guests performing ‘Far More Grace Than Me’. Saturday will feature poetry workshops and performance stage sessions. Saturday evening has a range of performances from G. Potter, Thick Richard, C. Crabb, S.Grundy, T.Curry and C.Pink. Sunday will expose you to ‘The Green Ensemble Experience’

On Friday 7th JulyLucy Cobb will be staging a Fashion Fundraiser, raising much needed money for the Whitaker Textiles & Costumes Collection Restoration Fund. Tickets are £7.50

On the weekend of 8th and 9th July, The Whitaker will be holding the Rawtenstall Annual Fair, which is a celebration of Rossendale’s traditions and heritage. The Weekend will feature Music, dance and a Special appearance from ‘Mr Lancashire’ himself, Sid Calderbank plus CP Lee, Neil Bell, Colin Barkley, the Raggedy Rooster, Richard Moss, William Michael Neary, Jim Saville, Dylan Owen, Julie Proctor and Joy HunterTim Cooke and Les Hilton – Chonkinfeckle, Corrie Shelley (Sunday only), Ron & Sally Williams, and Bob Dobson will read from his Lancashire book stall, Liz Calderbank-Whittaker will be doing displays and a beginners clog dance workshop.The prize winning Haslingden & Helmshore Band will be playing at the Sundays ‘Brass On’t Grass’ and there will be stalls selling local produce

The month of August brings The Whitaker’s ‘Summer Of Love’, a plethora of activities for the youngsters over the summer break, these include crafts and daily activities, four artists each spending one week connecting the Museum with the park


As Part of the Valley wide Rossendale 60’s Festival 2017, on 8th, 9th and 10th September, which has been shortlisted as a finalist in this years Northern Soul Awards in the Music Festival Of The Year category; The Whitaker will be staging an extravaganza of music and culture starting Friday, which features 60’s DJ and Bands. Saturday will offer games, a 60’s exhibition and live bands in the outside arena. Sunday will be laid back with 60’s classics

The 24th September, the Whitaker will be hosting ‘Harfest’, a mini Glastonbury celebrating the end of harvest, featuring music from Live bands all afternoon



The weekend of 20th – 22nd October, The Whitaker will be collaborating with The Horse & Bamboo Theatre in Waterfoot to bring you Rossendale’s First Film Festival on the theme of ‘Migration’
